After being given the unenviable task of taking over from Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery certainly had his work cut out in trying to restore Arsenal to their former glories.In the end, it proved to be far too difficult for the former PSG boss, with the Spaniard being sacked towards the end of 2019.In an interview with France Football, Emery opened up on his time with the Gunners, and delivered a rather stinging verdict, saying the club was on a “downward slope” when he took over, and that he “stopped this fall”.

After hearing their former manager’s comments, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

A couple of fans expressed their relief that Emery was sacked, suggesting they would be in the relegation zone or even relegated if they didn’t.

One fan insisted that his sacking was down to his own doing, and listed some of the mistakes Emery made in his time at Arsenal.

Whether it meant to sound slightly bitter and an attempt to deflect from his sacking, is up for debate. But Emery’s comments were hardly going to go down too well with the Arsenal supporters, and when looking at the Tweets above, it’s clear the reaction was as expected.

The Spaniard is simply damaging whatever legacy he had at the Emirates, and with these comments coming in the midst of the Gunners’ rebuild under Mikel Arteta, it is not ideal or welcome.
