They had resumed at 7 for 93, and were pushed to 224 by Ludeman, who managed his highest first-class score and added a doughty 107 for the ninth wicket with Sayers after Nathan Lyon departed early on.However the hold up did not dissuade Tasmania’s captain Tim Paine from enforcing the follow-on, and he was to be rewarded with another flurry of wickets.Jackson Bird struck twice with the new ball, while Phillip Hughes fended an edge to Ricky Ponting in the slips from the bowling of Luke Butterworth for the second time in the match.Johan Botha managed just five to go with a first innings duck, leaving Ludeman back at the crease at the close with the last recognised batsman Dan Christian.
