Rangers are in the midst of one of their most positive months of the season so far, refreshed and rejuvenated after the mid-season break.
Not only did they have a constructive training camp over in Florida, the club have delighted supporters with a number of first team signings that should, in theory, improve their fortunes massively in the second half of the season.
After battling to a 2-0 victory over rivals Aberdeen on Wednesday night, Graeme Murty’s side are again in second place in the Scottish Premiership.
However, they know they must win away to Ross County to keep the Dons at bay and if they’re to have any chance of catching Celtic then they can’t afford to drop any points, any time soon.
The Highlanders will give the Light Blues a tough match in Dingwall, so what must Murty do to ensure victory?
These are the three big team selection calls he must get right…
Should Murty just play the same team as Wednesday?
After such a comfortable victory against one of the best sides in the country on Wednesday night, Graeme Murty would be forgiven for simply naming the exact same starting eleven once again.
While none of the players put in a particularly special individual performance, as a unit they all worked for each other and created the chances needed to win the game and that togetherness is something that can bring them through Sunday’s match too.
Colombian Alfredo Morelos was back in amongst the goals once again, scoring his 13th of the season, and their debutants all performed to the standard required of Rangers men.
While it may be tempting to freshen things up, perhaps the best course of action is looking for consistency in performance through consistency in selection.
Should he throw Greg Docherty right into action?
If Graeme Murty does decide to change things up, then there are a number of exciting options to choose from in various positions across the pitch. Perhaps the most intriguing is the potential inclusion of new signing Greg Docherty, who joined the club from Hamilton on Thursday night.
The driven midfielder has been in classy form for Accies this season, scoring three goals and creating six assists, which isn’t a bad return for a bottom six side.
A boyhood Rangers fans, there’ll be nothing quite like a Light Blues debut in his career and it could inspire him to put in the kind of performance that wins Sunday’s match.
Fellow new signing Sean Goss performed well against Aberdeen, but having spent a fee on Docherty and with first team football required to continue his development, perhaps Graeme Murty’s attentions are best focused on the Scotland U21 international.
Jason Cummings, Alfredo Morelos, or both?
In attack too there are a variety of options Graeme Murty can choose from on Sunday.
New arrival Jason Cummings made his competitive debut against Aberdeen on Wednesday night but had to make do with an appearance off the bench, playing the final 30 minutes of the match.
The former Hibs man has never scored during the Scottish Premiership regular season and there’s a keen intrigue about how he steps up to this level after scoring so consistently for the Leith side in the Championship.
Whether played with top scorer Alfredo Morelos or on his own with support from Josh Windass, it’s the perfect opportunity to see what the loanee is made of in the top-flight and Murty will be hoping he gets his first goal for the club before too long, potentially sparking an extended period of good form from the striker.
