As the summer approaches, many transfers and bidding wars are expected to follow. The top clubs in the English game are more than likely to spend their megabucks and attempt to sign the world’s finest around Europe. However, should a majority of these premier league managers look no further than England?

Many premier league stars will be put on the market for a bargain price this summer, which will no doubt see a dozen of the leagues managers whip out their cheque books in a flash.

The following list contains 10 players who will cost as little as £6 million. All of the players mentioned have premier league experience and appear to be going at a cut price or even on a free.

Here is the premier league’s bargain shopping list for this summer’s transfer window:

Martin Petrov (Manchester City):

The 31-year-old Bulgarian managed to appear 19 times for City in all competitions and bagged 5 goals this year However, due to a long-term knee injury and the arrival of Adam Johnson in January, Petrov has struggled to hold down a regular first team place, and as such, been overlooked by his boss.

The Bulgarian’s contract is set to expire this summer and will know that he is highly unlikely to get games at City next season. It’s been reported that Everton and Spurs are interested in the winger and will cost nothing to acquire his services, but his wage demands of £45,000 a week may pose a problem. Any club in the premier league that can afford the players wage should definitely consider offering the winger a new lease of life.

Jimmy Bullard (Hull City):

The midfielder is sure to be on several premier league clubs radar, after Hull City suffered relegated this season.

The 31-year-old is known to be injury prone, but when fit shows why he is such a good player. Bullard is looking to leave and the cash-strapped tigers are hoping to sell the player to the highest bidder in order to get him off their wage bill.

Bullard is the highest earning player at Hull with wages of up to £45,000 a week. However, due to his recurring injury problems, many clubs may opt for a loan move rather than a permanent one for the midfielder. Celtic are the only team at present to have shown an interest in the player, but this may change as time goes by. A bid of possibly £2 million could see Bullard head for the exit this summer.

Kevin Prince-Boateng (Portsmouth):

The 23-year-old has been a revelation this season, despite seeing his side relegated from the league. Boateng has been one of Portsmouth best players along with Jamie O’Hara this season. The midfielder showed fight, determination and desire and which would have made a number of managers within the league take notice.

The Portsmouth no.23 will be offloaded by Pompey for a cut price due to the clubs financial instability and recent relegation, so expect to see a lot of bids come in for the player this summer. Currently, West Ham appear to be leading the chase for the midfielder’s signature. An offer of £3-4 million is more than enough to see Boateng leave Portsmouth when the window opens in July.

Joe Cole (Chelsea):

Joe Cole’s departure from Chelsea maybe one of the most talked about this summer, as it appears the 28-year-old is set to leave the double winners on a free.

The Chelsea winger is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer and has not yet reached a new deal with his employers. However, Joe Cole will have done himself no favours by demanding a contract which would see him pocket a gargantuan £6.2 million a year (£120,000 a week).

This may prove to be a problem for some clubs who have a strict financial structure to keep to. Clubs who are willing, and can afford to pay his wages, should definitely consider attaining the England international’s services. Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be interested in the Chelsea man.

Ivan Klasnic (Nantes):

The 30-year-old striker has been on-loan at Bolton for the entire season from FC Nantes. But, with the cash-strapped French side failing to gain promotion to Ligue 1 this season, the club will now have to listen to offers for the Croatian international.

Klasnic had a clause in his contract when he signed for Bolton, which gives the wanderers first option on signing the striker on a permanent deal in the summer. However, the Croatians wages appear to be a stumbling block for Bolton.

Klasnic had a good season for the wanderers appearing 27 times and bagging 8 goals in the league and it’s reported that Bolton may get him back on-loan for the start of next season.

Nantes are willing to sell the forward for only £1.5 million, as they cannot afford to keep him on their books anymore. If Bolton are reluctant to pay the transfer fee and the player’s wages, then another team in the premier league could potentially bag a bargain in Ivan Klasnic this summer.

Sol Campbell (Arsenal):

Sol Campbell will be out of contract for the gunners in the summer, but he remains hopeful that he will be an Arsenal player come the start of next season. The defender has reiterated time and time again that he wants to stay at the Emirates, but has yet to sign the deal offered to him by Arsenal.

The veteran defender has been a formidable figure in the backline of Arsenal’s defence in the latter stages of the season. He certainly earned a new one year deal at the Emirates with the performances he has produced in the latter stages of the season. However, Campbell has not yet put pen to paper, leaving many clubs pondering a possible bid for the strong centre-back.  Celtic are reported to be monitoring the situation.

Nadir Belhadj (Portsmouth):

One of the fastest and most tenacious left-backs in the premier league will more than likely be waving goodbye to Portsmouth this summer, following their drop to the championship this season.

The Algerian has recently been linked with the likes of Celtic, Liverpool and Roma following a string of good performances in the domestic league for Pompey. The left-back will look to move on this summer, and could go for less than £3 million due to his clubs financial problems…a total bargain for a player of his quality. It will be interesting to see which premier league clubs make a move for the 27-year-old Algerian in the summer.

Jamie O’Hara (Tottenham):

O’Hara has shown the premier league why he deserves to be playing in the top flight of English football. O’Hara had been overshadowed by a number of Spurs midfielders this season which prompted two loan moves to Pompey this year.

He has had an excellent season for the relegated side, but is now set to head back to North London. The 23-year-old’s homecoming may be short-lived as he fears he may be warming the bench rather than playing football next season. O’Hara is looking to sit down with manager Harry Redknapp when his loan expires, and discuss whether or not he should look for another club or not. If the midfielder were to be put on the market this summer, then a whole host of clubs will be looking into the prospect of signing the player. West Ham have already expressed their interest in the midfielder but nothing has yet been fabricated.

O’Hara will definitely be a bargain this summer, and a possible £5-6 million bid may see the player leave White Hart Lane.

David James (Portsmouth):

The 39-year-old has been one of the most prolific and respected goalkeepers in premier league history. But, with Portsmouth confined to the championship and the club in financial crisis, will the veteran goalkeeper look to move on this summer?

The England international’s contract is set to expire in June and has already been offered a new deal with the relegated side, but has yet to sign it.

James will be a free agent and as such won’t require a transfer fee. However, the goalkeeper’s wages may cause a bit of a problem for some clubs interested. But, an experienced goal-stopper like James, on a free, is surely a bargain even at the age of 39.

Benjani (Manchester City):

The out-of-favour City striker will be available on a free this summer as his current contract is set to expire within the next few months.

The Zimbabwean was loaned out to Sunderland in January but failed to impress the manager and the locals. The 31-year-old is now heading back to City but is surely on his way out when the summer window opens in July.

Although Benjani hasn’t scored a goal in the entire season, the striker will be a good option for the ‘smaller’ teams to look into this summer.
