Sheffield United are set to do battle with multiple Premier League and European sides for Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis.
Belgian publication HLN believe he is on the wish list of the Blades ahead of a potential summer swoop.
What’s the word?
HLN suggest the 22-year-old is on the wish lists of numerous clubs in a deal that could be as much as €25m (£21m).
As well as the Blades, he is attracting the interest of Newcastle, Brighton and Watford. However, there are some more illustrious names in the hat.
They include Monaco, Borussia Dortmund and Sampdoria. Dortmund’s scouts have reportedly been to watch the Nigerian play on a regular basis.
According to HLN, Dennis wanted to leave Brugge last summer but was convinced to stay after the arrival of manager Philippe Clement.
An intriguing pursuit
Sheffield United currently have a vast array of options up front, particularly after signing Dutchman Richairo Zivkovic on loan in January.
On top of that they also Lys Mousset, David McGoldrick, Oliver McBurnie and Billy Sharp among their ranks.
With that in mind, signing another striker doesn’t sound like an instant requirement – although the qualities of Dennis would veto that.
He has been impressive in 2019/20, scoring five times in 14 Jupiler Pro League starts. However, it’s in the Champions League where he has excelled the most.
He tore Real Madrid to shreds back in October during a European campaign where he’s contributed to three strikes in six outings.
In the Bernabeu, Dennis scored two goals during a 2-2 draw with the Spanish giants. His display was nothing short of excellent – registering three dribbles, winning two aerial duels and also being fouled once, via WhoScored.
For away day veterans only: Can you name all of these defunct stadiums?
Similar performances have been rare in 2019/20, though, but his displays in continental competition suggest Dennis certainly has a lot of promise.
A £21m tag may be a considerable price to pay but the potential the striker showed against Madrid could make him worth investing in.
