Plenty of intriguing stories are being written in North Wales and the West Midlands, but ex-England star and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has told of what the immediate future could hold: “I would like to see both Birmingham and Wrexham in the Premier League one day. I think it's great what's happening at those football clubs. But I also would be cautious because of what they'll be able to spend in the Championship.
“It's very different in League One to what they can come in and do in the Championship. Whether they'll be able to go on and push on as much as they'd like, or can in terms of financials is very different now they've reached that level.
“Wrexham had a great result the other day and Wycombe were beaten 4-0 at home, so that was an incredible result for them. It's turned the other way towards Wrexham now. Again, two huge football clubs with massive fanbases, both Wrexham and Birmingham.”
