Bayern Munich have confirmed the tragic death of 18-year-old Chinese talent Guo Jiaxuan after an accident during a training match in February.

In February, Guo was struck in the head by an opponent player's knee during a match in Spain. The young Chinese defender was a member of Bayern Munich's World Squad, a worldwide program launched by the German club to nurture exceptional players from around the world.

According to reports from Germany, Guo underwent a subarachnoid haemorrhage, a rare type of stroke caused by bleeding on the brain's surface. He was transferred to a Madrid hospital, where his family was devastated to learn that Guo had no brain function remaining. Almost a month and a half later, Guo's family has announced the sad demise a day before his 19th birthday. Bayern also released a statement on Thursday afternoon mourning Guo's death.

On the website, Bayern released a statement that read: “FC Bayern is mourning the passing of Guo Jiaxuan, the former World Squad player who has died at the age of 18 in his native China.
“He succumbed to the effects of a serious head injury following a tragic accident during a training match in Spain on 6 February.
“The club’s thoughts are with his family and friends.
“The centre-back was part of the FC Bayern World Squad in 2023, which gives talented players from all over the world the chance to showcase themselves for professional football.
“Jiaxuan was also part of China’s youth national teams.”
OTHER TRIBUTES FOR JIAXUAN
The late Chinese defender's last club in China, Beijing Guoan, also paid tribute to their former player and wrote: "We have lost a child who loved football. May Jiaxuan rest in peace!
"The club will continue to do its utmost to deal with the consequences appropriately and provide all necessary help and support to Guo Jiaxuan's family."
