Abdo revealed that Messi declined to make a cameo appearance on CBS Sports' Champions League broadcast, citing Carragher's presence as the reason behind his decision. Messi declined to share the screen with the Liverpool icon, even if he declared Messi to be the greatest player of all time. The Reds veteran had previously said, that the Argentine had called him a "donkey" via text following Carragher's criticism of him for moving to Paris Saint-Germain.

"You know that we made an official invitation extended one to Inter Miami and we asked him to come on the show, do you know what the official response was," Abdo asked the cast. "Am I allowed to say this? Apparently, Lionel Messi will not be doing any television shows that Jamie Carragher is a part of."

Carragher jokingly referred to Messi's reluctance to appear alongside him as a "claim to fame." In addition, he questioned whether Carragher's analysis or the football icon's presence would have been favoured by the crowd. CBS would have been more interested in having Messi appear on the broadcast given his recent influence on Inter Miami and American football. Notably, he led his new team to the US Open Cup finals and their first-ever Leagues Cup victory.
WHAT NEXT?
While it remains to be seen if the Inter Miami star appears on the universally loved show, one thing is for certain, the Argentine will not be back in action until February 2024 when the Herons return to pre-season training.
